Some Sage Advice for the Budding Adult

Sometimes one of the hardest things to do in college is to own up to your mistakes.  If you mess up, there’s no one to blame but yourself.  You’re the student who messed up, you’re the person who has to deal with the disappointment of letting down everyone that you care about.  And trust me, you’re going to let plenty of people down, it’s part of growing up.  So here’s a little tiny piece of advice: No matter how many times you think trying harder is going to make things better, it’s not.  The harder you try, the worse things get.  So just stop for a second and try to figure things out.  Take a breath and try to make things better for you first and then everything will fall into place.  It’s hard to ignore the needs of others, but once you start doing things for you then you stop letting everyone else down.  Because in the end, your real friends want you to take care of yourself more than they want anything else.  And all the fake people, well they’re just fake.
