Hipster!Cara: Blogging is SO Mainstream

I HATE it when someone dislikes something because it has a huge fan base.  I work in a bookstore, so I always suggest my favorite books to people, which just so happen to usually be the same 4: How to Kill a Mockingbird, Hunger Games, Uglies and Divergent.  However, lately a lot of people have been declining my offer of Hunger Games and Divergent because they don’t think it’s “cool” to read something when the movie is coming out.  Because that’s what everyone else does.  I’m sorry, but that’s stupid.

Do what you want, not what “coolness” dictates.  You have to just find something that interests you and do it even if everyone else is already doing it.  Why? Because then you’re not doing it because it’s cool or it’s mainstream or whatever.  You’re doing it because you want to and if anyone takes offense to that, then they’re not cool enough to be your friend.

I’ve noticed that when books come out that are good and popular there’s an immediate spike in the hatred of them.  I mean, if I could do a graph, it would show you the hatred of a certain book usually hits it’s peak right when a movie is being made of it.  Why? Because a lot of people are gonna pick up that book because “oh yeah” there’s a movie out and then they’re going to be like “Well, this just ain’t cool because I have to hate it because it’s popular…forget that it’s good…it’s popular so I hate it”.

Seriously, GROW. UP.

I’m sick and tired of people hating things because they’re popular, it’s almost as annoying as hipsters who hate everything that is popular and mainstreamers who don’t like anything original.  Why can’t we just not be idiots and like stuff because we like it and not because it’s too mainstream or because it’s uncool or whatever!

JUST DO WHAT YOU LOVE (and stop being so repressed)!

It is honestly a physical problem. Seriously. I don’t want to be a hipster… but something in my body just cringes at the idea of becoming a mindless zombie. Even with something good like the Hunger Games. Okay the Hunger Games were mostly me being tired/lazy but still… I think it’s in humans by default. I go on about Sherlock and no one cares. Most are even adverse to it. Hurts my feelings. AT LEAST I READ THE HUNGER GAME AND THE ONLY REASON I DIDN’T AT FIRST WAS BECAUSE I DIDN’T HAVE TIME. T_T

I just don’t like the idea of people missing out on things because they’re all “It’s popular. No thanks.” I don’t know how to respond about Sherlock Holmes because I just don’t watch that many shows. I pretty much just watch Glee and Young Justice religiously. There’s pretty much nothing else that keeps my attention long enough. Already lost interest in Gossip Girl in season 2.
